Jean Fouquet - Portrait of Charles VII (c. 1450)

The first great Renaissance painter outside Italy is the point of union between the Italian and Flemish vision of Art.
Respectful of tradition, he represents the king who ascended the throne thanks to the commitment of Joan of Arc at the window but anticipates Goya. Not in the harshness of the scenes but in the merciless objectivity: an official portrait that does not highlight the magnificence but the real aspect, which is not one of the strongest.
