Hubert Robert - Ruins of a terrace in a park (c. 1780)

Among the most prolific landscape painters, more than fifty works can be admired only at the Hermitage.
Trained in Rome where he went at the age of 21 (1745), the Beauty of the past remained etched in his eyes. The only real element of the work is the statue, signed by Guillaume Coustou and now in Place de la Concorde). Everything else comes from the painter's mind.
