Frans Hals - Portrait of a man with a glove (c. 1650)

A portrait apparently like many others, a banal style as a good academic who respects all the rules. None of this.
Frans Hals will remain an unheard voice in painting until the nineteenth century, when he will be understood by Manet and Van Gogh. Finally he will find someone who speaks his own language.
The incredible volume of this work is given by the figure that emerges from the darkness of the background. The anti-academy can be seen from the many diagonal lines that have a rhythm of their own, made confused by rapid and not very detailed brush strokes.
A painter who unfortunately missed the era in which he was born but who nevertheless planted a seed that will bear fruit, and will be many and luxuriant.
