Paolo Veronese - Pietà (1576-1582)

One of the most sober and intense performances. Here I join the two traditions, someone wanted the Pietà with two angels holding up the dead body of Christ, someone else preferred the dead body in the mother's arms. Veronese mixes the two.
No landscape, no one else but the scene. The light and the black background give this work a spiritual aspect that few others have.
