Gerrit van Honthorst - Childhood of Christ (c. 1620)


He was so great in making the night scenes that he was called Gherardo delle Notti. His teacher was Caravaggio, no need to say it. The art of the great Milanese master met the perfection of the Flemish world.
A traditional scene, according to which the little Jesus, like every good child, helped his father who in the seventeenth century became the symbol par excellence of the industrious breadwinner to which many were inspired in northern Europe.
